This summer the streets around Milagro will host a cycle of fun activities. In conjunction with Portland’s Sunday Parkways, Milagro will highlight Latino performing groups and bike clinics as part of its Latine Plaza Activation Project.

Tune ups, music, and more!

On August 1, stop by Milagro on your way around the green loop and get your bike tuned up by volunteers from Bikes 4 Humanity, a non-profit bike shop and school. They accept donations of used bicycles and share skills and knowledge needed to get more people riding.

On August 8 at 1:00 p.m., enjoy music by Gerardo Calderon, sharing his Inspirational Sounds from Latin America. August 15 and 22, at 1:00 p.m., Son Huitzilín, will be playing a blend of music influenced by sones of Mexico using traditional and original instruments. “We've been playing with the mission to bring Son Afro-Mestizo to communities in Oregon. We hope to inspire others to keep this music alive while continuing to explore our own sound.”

A Bici-Macina, loaned from the Street Trust, will churn out aguas fresas to share with attendees, who will be able to enjoy a plaza decorated with a gorgeous mural by Jessica Lagunas and friends, for the summer activation project.  The Street Trust has numerous initiatives that help the community, such as the Move More Challenge, happening all summer long, that rewards everyone for using sustainable means of travel, Safe Routes to Schools, and Jump Start, pairing kids in need with free bikes. Attendees of these events are also encouraged to bring photos or other memorabilia to add to a ghost bike altar, to commemorate people who have died in bike crashes. Local artisans and other vendors will also have information tables during these events, and giveaways.

The Zocalo will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sundays, through August 22.
